March Training

With the warmer weather and sunshine we have finally been able to get out on the river for some training! We’ve been paddling the Shoshone section of the Colorado River near Glenwood Springs. It feels amazing to be back on the water and the low flows are perfect for training, with plenty of rocks to practice our slalom turns and ferrying technique. Until now we’ve been training mostly in the gym, following a plan created for us by a friend and strength and conditioning coach. Taking the fitness that we’ve built and applying it to paddling has been really rewarding.

Coming up we have plans for a couple “paddle camps.” In early April we will spend a few days training for the Downriver event on the Colorado River. Then, in early May, we are heading over to Salida to do five days of Slalom training on the gates set on the Arkansas River.
